Ingredients in Shrimp Fajitas
Shrimp – fresh shrimp is always a plus, but we also regularly use frozen shrimp for convenience. I like to get the jumbo, peeled, deveined shrimp with tails off for easy preparation. Make sure to thaw the shrimp according to package directions Bell Peppers – I like to use red, yellow, and orange bell peppers in my fajitas. Onion – Use a red, white, yellow, or sweet onion. Fajita Seasoning – you can make your own fajita seasoning with cumin, paprika, oregano, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, sugar, and salt. Or, just use the premade mix from the store. Oil – use a neutral oil like canola oil or vegetable oil. You can also use olive oil. Flour Tortillas – make your own tortillas or use your favorite store-bought brand. Warm tortillas are recommended!
What to Serve with Shrimp Fajitas
Our fajitas are never complete without a tantalizing array of toppings. We love to enhance the flavor with dollops of creamy guacamole, the vibrant freshness of cilantro, and a squeeze of zesty lime wedges. And that’s just the beginning! Your spread could also include a medley of salsa, pico de gallo, black beans, sliced avocados, sour cream, crema, cheddar cheese, or hot sauce. To create a satisfying and well-rounded meal, we accompany our fajitas with sides of Restaurant Style Mexican Rice and Restaurant Style Refried Beans, adding an extra touch of authenticity to the dining experience.
Cooking Methods
When it comes to preparing shrimp for your fajitas, you have three cooking methods at your disposal, each offering its own unique flair. First up, grilling the shrimp imparts a smoky char that adds a depth of flavor, perfect for those who appreciate a touch of outdoor cooking. Alternatively, searing the shrimp in a hot skillet creates an element of caramelization, locking in the shrimp’s natural juices and creating a succulent texture. Lastly, for a fuss-free, less mess option, oven-baking the shrimp offers a convenient alternative, ensuring even cooking. If you’re a fan of the oven method, then be sure to check out our Sheet Pan Chicken Fajitas. In the recipe card below we give instructions for the skillet method. Whichever method you choose, be prepared for shrimp that is tender, flavorful, and ready to wrap up in a fajita!
