Ingredients on a Butter Board
Softened Butter – for the foundation of your board you’ll want to use a high quality brand of butter. I recommend Kerrygold Irish Butter. It is so creamy and delicious! Garlic – cloves roasted to perfection with olive oil Figs – plump and juicy with just a touch of sweetness, plus they look so pretty! Fig Butter – a velvety spread made from figs, you can also use fig jam Lemon Zest – a sprinkle of lemon zest adds a citrusy pop Honey – a golden drizzle of honey adds a touch of sweetness to the board Rosemary – fresh rosemary sprigs add a fragrant herbal note Bread for serving – bread is the perfect vessel for this buttery delight, I like sourdough, but any crusty bread will work, you can also use crackers Platter for serving – use a cutting board, cheese board, or marble slab for the backdrop
Origins of the Butter Board
The idea of butter boards came from Chef Josh McFadden’s cookbook Six Seasons: A New Way With Vegetables, but it became a TikTok trend when Justine Doiron (Justine Snacks on TikTok) made one on her page. Her butter board included flaky sea salt, citrus zest, fresh mint, honey, red onions, edible flowers, fresh basil, cardamom, and coriander. Since her viral video, so many people (including us!) have put their own spin on the butter board.
Variations
Put your own spin on the butter board trend with these delicious topping ideas:
