What Is Dalgona Coffee

Dalgona coffee is a whipped coffee made with instant coffee, sugar, water, and milk. It calls for equal ratio of instant coffee powder, sugar, hot water and whipped to form a creamy and fluffy froth. The whipped coffee mousse is then added to a glass of cold or warm milk to form a two-layer coffee, with the frothy mousse sitting at the top of milk. The end result is a rich, creamy and frothy coffee that rivals the best cafe in town. It has won the world over and it’s currently the most trendy DIY coffee to make at home!

Dalgona Coffee Recipe

My Dalgona whipped coffee calls for only four (4) ingredients.

Milk Instant coffee. I used Folgers Classic Decaf instant coffee crystals. Sugar Hot water

I like my coffee hot and strong, so I turned it into Dalgona Macchiato, served in a small espresso cup. This whipped coffee is so frothy, rich, with an intense aroma of coffee. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients.

How To Make Coffee Dalgona

It’s so easy to make this DIY coffee at home. The recipe calls for a two-step process. First, combine instant coffee powder, sugar and hot water in a bowl. Whisk and whip the coffee mixture by hand until the mixture becomes foamy and soft peaks form. If you have an electronic hand mixer, you can certainly use it to whip the coffee mixture. Next, heat up the milk and add the coffee mousse on top of the milk. Serve immediately.

How To Make the Best Dalgona Coffee

Here are my tips to make Dalgona whipped coffee like it’s straight from Italy:

Make sure you whisk the coffee mixture until the color turns from dark brown to lighter, golden brown. The coffee mousse is ready when soft peaks form as more air is incorporated to form the frothy mousse. The perfect ratio for a strong and rich Dalgona coffee is 70% milk and 30% whipped coffee mousse. For extra flavors, dust a tiny bit of coffee powder or cocoa powder as topping.
