I have been craving Boba smoothies all summer. Unfortunately getting them out frequently can be rough on the budget. So I decided to learn how to make them myself and I am so glad that I did. They were so easy to learn how to make and now I can customize the smoothies to my personal taste. Get ready to make your own boba smoothie right in your home! All ingredients are made from scratch and taste amazingly delicious mixed together. Once you made one boba smoothie from scratch you are going to hand them out to friends and family when they come over! It is a quick and easy homemade smoothie that everyone loves! Drinks featuring boba, like boba tea and boba smoothies, originated in Taiwan, but have spread in popularity all over the world. They are eye-catching because of their bright colors and little boba tapioca pearls at the bottom. I love boba smoothies, and I always wanted to know if I could make them at home. Now that I know how easy it is I make them for my family all the time. They are a great, refreshing treat any day of the year!
Tapioca pearls – In the recipe card below I explain how to cook dehydrated tapioca pearls. You can find these at most Asian grocery stores. You can also use pre-cooked frozen boba, in which case you would prepare the boba according to package directions. Sweetener – I use a few different sweeteners in this recipe. I use brown sugar and honey to sweeten the boba pearls, and I use white sugar to sweeten the smoothie. You can use any combination of these, or other sweeteners like agave, stevia, and maple syrup. Frozen fruit – For this recipe I chose Honeydew, Strawberry and Mango versions! Honeydew is my favorite boba smoothie flavor with Strawberry and Mango as close runner ups. However, you can use any frozen fruit variations or combinations of fruits! Some of my other favorites are banana and raspberry. Sometimes I make a strawberry banana smoothie with boba and that is quite good as well. Milk – I used coconut milk in this recipe because I like how it tastes with the honeydew. However, you can use any dairy or non dairy milk for your smoothie. I have tried oat milk, almond milk, milk tea, and whole milk all with great results. Serving glass and straw – To serve this boba smoothie, you will need a tall glass and a wide-opening straw or a boba straw. The boba spheres are larger than a normal straw. I have found reusable large straws in some grocery stores and online. We take our reusable straws when we buy boba to reduce waste. Use any milk substitutions you prefer.
